Non-Profit Spotlight: Aquidneck Food Pantry

The Aquidneck Food Pantry provides essential food support to families across Aquidneck Island. Learn how this community-powered nonprofit is making a difference—and how you can help.
Supporting Neighbors on Aquidneck Island
Founded in 2021, the Aquidneck Food Pantry is a vital local food resource serving Portsmouth and surrounding communities. Located at 81 Sprague Street in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, the pantry provides consistent, reliable access to food for individuals and families facing food insecurity.
In recent weeks, the need for assistance has grown significantly. Today, the pantry serves more than 200 families each week, responding to increased demand with compassion and care.
How the Pantry Operates
The Aquidneck Food Pantry distributes food on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Based on family size, dedicated volunteers prepare pre-set packages that include both non-perishable items and fresh food. This thoughtful approach helps ensure dignity, efficiency, and consistency for every family served.
GET INVOLVED: Every donation—large or small—helps ensure local families have access to nutritious food when they need it most.
Powered by Community Support
The pantry is not funded by state or federal resources. Instead, it relies entirely on volunteers and the generosity of community members and local businesses.
There are several ways to help:
-
-
Donate non-perishable food items
-
Make a monetary contribution
-
Purchase items directly through the pantry’s Amazon wish list for direct delivery
-
Homes By Connect: Giving Back Locally
At the end of November, Homes By Connect concluded our outdoor Pop-Up Pantry as colder weather made food storage more challenging. With five bins of remaining food, the next step was clear: donate directly to neighbors in need through the Aquidneck Food Pantry.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to support an organization doing such important work and proud to play a small role in helping meet a growing community need.
LOCAL IMPACT MATTERS: At Homes By Connect, we believe that supporting community-based nonprofits like the Aquidneck Food Pantry strengthens neighborhoods, builds resilience, and helps ensure no neighbor is left behind—especially during the winter months.
