The Donovan Group Supports Survivors of Domestic Violence
On Monday, July 28th, The Donovan Group at Homes By Connect proudly attended Seaside Sips, a fundraising event benefiting the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) of Newport County. Held at the stunning Bohlin in Newport, the evening featured delicious food, signature drinks, and meaningful conversations about the life-changing work the WRC provides to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence.
About the Women’s Resource Center
The Women’s Resource Center has been a beacon of safety and hope for Newport County residents for decades. With nearly 1 in 2 women in Rhode Island affected by domestic violence, the need for their services is urgent and widespread. The WRC is committed to supporting every person who walks through their doors, offering compassionate, comprehensive assistance.

Services Offered by the WRC Include:
- Free counseling for survivors
- Children’s support services
- Pet-friendly emergency shelter, allowing families to escape together—pets included
- Transitional housing and financial assistance, such as help with security deposits and first month’s rent
- Court advocacy, helping victims navigate the legal system
Did You Know? The WRC is one of the few shelters in the region that allows pets, helping more families leave unsafe situations without leaving loved ones behind.
Going Beyond Shelter: Prevention and Education
The WRC not only provides immediate support but also works to create lasting change. Through partnerships with local law enforcement, they enhance response protocols to domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault. Their prevention programming tackles these issues at the root, educating youth and the broader community to foster a safer Newport County.

While their impact is clear, the WRC’s funding is under threat. Hearing firsthand from survivors and the passionate professionals behind this organization was a powerful reminder of the importance of community support.
